Secondly, a big thanks to Michelle Q and Rae F. They had the joy of competing in THE worst CrossFit competition EVER this weekend. Without going into too many gory details, it was extremely disorganized, long, and in general, really annoying. In spite of that though, they won their heats and represented Synapse proudly. And that warms my heart. Which brings me to my next blog post:
Top 5 Reasons I love Synapse: (I know I've listed some before, but I just keep thinking of MORE!!!!!)
1. You're gonna smile, guaranteed.
Whether Jimmy's pushing your buttons, or Jun's doing...anything..., or Steve's cheering you on, or someone just made (another) snatch joke, you're gonna have a good time hangin out at Synapse. Our WODs may kill you, but you better believe we're funnier than any other gym. We don't believe in taking this stuff seriously. It's exercise, and that's all. It should be the best part of your day. Every one of you walks into that gym ready to let off steam, make some new friends, and enjoy something in your life that is REAL, and awesome, and generally badass.
2. Each class has a distinctive personality.
Teaching the 6am is WAY different from teaching the 9am, which is WAY different from teaching 6pm. The 6am gets work DONE. I mean, you gotta be dedicated if you're there that early.9am is home to the Godfather, Dustin, and Jun, and you KNOW that combo is gonna cause trouble. The night classes are a whirlwind of new faces, competition and trash talk, and a million different reasons to stay after class to hang out.
3. I can't go to Whole Foods without seeing one of you.
I LOVE that our gym is focused on your entire health- physical, spiritual, mental, and we'll talk about any part of it with you. We actually give quite a few shits about your well-being and will most likely go to all ends of the earth to ensure that you are healthy and happy. That has trickled down to most members of the gym. I don't think there's anyone there who wouldn't stop what they're doing to help out a fellow Synapster.
....But also, stop eating all the bacon at whole foods. It's mine!!!!
4. You have to have balls to do our WODs.
5. Intelligence.
The stretching, the mobility, the design of the WODs and programming, the focus on technique, the focus on safety- Synapse will take care of you, and they'll get you to your goals in a sensible, logical, calculated way. I've learned more than I did in college being at Synapse, guaranteed. I've learned about anatomy, physiology, nutrition, politics, and the world around me simply by talking to the people at our gym. I've grown up quite a bit and see the world different because of all of you. This gym is transformative and has transformed me. I hope you all will continue to let it do the same to you. Open your mind and you WILL learn something here. About the world, about yourself, about your capabilities. Did that happen to you at 24 Hour Fitness?
