I thought Weightlifting would be a more respected answer. After all, weightlifting is all about technique. No one can get mad at you for doing weightlifting. There's definitely no injuries involved, incredibly healthy for you, and gets you in really good shape to take on all sorts of life challenges... Unless you happen to get injured, start eating like a weightlifter, and stop doing all sorts of other functional activities (running, jumping, pulling, pushing, or any sort of cardiovascular fitness at all).
My point is not to degrade weightlifting, or to say CrossFit is better than weightlifting...AT ALL. My point is that degrading CrossFit, or ANY excercise routine, is pointless.
There are benefits to weightlifting. There are benefits to personal training. There are even benefits to going to 24 Hour Fitness (!!!). Stop Shaming people for their exercise routines. You're making it easier and allowable for others to hate on you and criticize YOUR choice in regimens.
Hiding your choice in exercise because of others' criticism is even MORE pointless. Coming out of the CrossFit closet is sometimes looked down upon now, and that's really dumb. I urge all of you reading to fly your CrossFit freak flag high and show people that CrossFit really can be for everyone. It's not for people who want to get injured, it's not for pregnant women who apparently want to injure their unborn children, and it's not for people just looking for the next fitness trend. It is for people who are taking control of their lives and changing them, for people who aren't afraid to train technically difficult movements, for people who have made health a priority. It's also the most fun thing I've ever done in my life since the early days in gymnastics when all we did was run around the gym putting chalk on our faces. It's THAT FUN.
If you are tired of hearing how dumb CrossFit is, or how dangerous it is, turn that reputation around YOURSELF. Stop downgrading other exercisers. Show off your outstanding technique. Show people how awesome your coaches are. Talk about the community. Talk about how happy you are. If all this was fake or made up, it wouldn't be this big. There's something here that's really valuable, and I'm sick of watching all of us hide it like we have something to be ashamed of.
Reclaim your CrossFit badge of honor, you've worked hard for it.
